Knitting a network of art and fabric from Denver Post
A gown woven completely from cassette recording tape is among the creations on view in a new exhibit at TACtile Textile Arts Center in southeast Denver. The tape — which once held songs and words — now draws attention for its visual appeal.
"It's been reinvented," says Dianne Denholm, referring to the dress. But she could also be talking about herself. For almost 20 years, Denholm ran a fabric store and studio in Cherry Creek North. Now, she is the executive director of TACtile, which has become the hub of the area's fiber arts community. Featuring a gallery with exhibits that change eight times a year, classes, workshops, mentoring and more, this is not your grandmother's knitting store.
