'Knitting Up Fiction:' Group combines crafts, books from Hickory Daily Record
The six women sitting in a circle in the Southwest Branch Library on Sunday afternoon touched on a variety of subjects as they pulled out needles and yarn.
"Knitting and crocheting are the basics, but since we're in the library, we throw in a book on occasion," said Ona Scruggs of Maiden.
Scruggs is working on a scarf with beautiful, bright colors — purples, blues and pinks.
"It's called sumptuous scraps and you do use up all your scraps," she said, referring to the leftover pieces of yarn too small to make a complete piece.
"And you do need to do that," said Jean McAnulty, of Viewmont, who is participating in the group for the first time.
