Delaware Coast Press from Needles, yarn keep group together
hink of a knitting circle and likely what comes to mind is a group of grandmotherly ladies meeting weekly for years, like their mothers and mothers' mothers before them, to show off their latest afghans.
But at a community coffee shop on the back road halfway between Onancock and Belle Haven, this group of knitters is anything but a stereotype.
Rather, it's a dynamic and unconventional club that meets Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Amy and Joe Betit's The Cub and The Bear Coffee Shoppe.
The makeup of the group changes frequently -- and everyone is welcome.
In these tough times, there is something of a pioneer spirit in those who can make their own socks, mittens and sweaters -- they're sure to take a bite out of fuel bills -- not to mention whip up a holiday dress.
But when it comes to their craft, these self-reliant knitters have a wealth of knowledge and experience to pass on, and gossip is verboten.
