Knitting class provides students with new hobby

About 20 kids found their cure for summer boredom in an activity that won't make most people's Top Ten Boredom-breakers: knitting. The class, taught at the Kilgore Public Library by Donna Knight, met Thursday mornings for three weeks and worked on projects such as bookmarks and scarves. They wrapped up their work this week. "I don't suppose any of them knew anything about knitting when they started, and now look at them," Knight said. Marian Chase, 11, knitted a pink bookmark for her mother's birthday. She said she had to start over once, but she is proud of the finished product. So is her mother. "She already has it," Marian said. She's really happy." Marian said she plans to move ahead to bigger projects. Her goal is to knit a jacket for her baby cousin.
