Grand Blanc group knitting helmet liners to warm Marine's heads and hearts from The Grand Blanc News
Small comforts can mean the world to a Marine far from home and camping in the cold desert night in Iraq, says Jean Johnson of Grand Blanc.
Although she can't be with her grandson Capt. Steve Lucking of Illinois, who will soon leave for Iraq, she knows a way to remain close to his heart.
Johnson will work with Ewe to You Yarns to host Thursday night knitting circles dedicated to creating helmet liners for Marines.
The wool helmet liners will provide warmth during cool desert nights and are nonflammable. They also let the Marines know someone is thinking of them, Johnson said.
"They'll be thrilled. There is no way these could be made other than by loving hands of people from home," she said.
