'Sock lady' turned her living room into her knitting room from Press of Atlantic City
Knitting is such a part of Deb Meyer's life that co-workers at Fresno, Calif.'s Community Regional Medical Center call the operating-room nurse the "sock lady." Meyer is a whiz at knitting cozy, wool/nylon socks that "last a long time."
Wearing a black T-shirt that reads, "Eat, Knit, Die," Meyer, 53, is serious about her hobby. Her mother taught her to crochet at age 7.
"I like the idea of working with my hands," she says. "The result is something you're proud of."
Three years ago, Meyer turned a spare bedroom into a knitting room. However, six months ago when her daughter returned home, her collection of yarns, knitting needles and patterns was moved into the living room. It's the first room you see as you enter her Fresno, Calif., home.
