Mouse Hat Crochet Pattern

Materials

1. Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors, White for the hat, Black for the ears and Magenta for the Bow a.) I used Red heart Super Saver.

2. Hook H (5 mm) or any hook that matches gauge

3. Sewing needle with matching thread.

4. Few tiny white buttons to make polka dots on the bow

Size

Pattern is written for size 3-6 months, 14 inch headband and 5 inches high. Try using a smaller or bigger hook to make other sizes.

Gauge

After Round 3 of the pattern (3 dc rounds), the circle measures 4

inches in diameter.

Stitch Abbreviations

Pattern is in standard American terms.

dc- double crochet

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

ch- chain

sk- skip

Instructions

Ch 4, slip stitch to 1st ch to form a ring.

Round1: Ch 2, make 10 dc in the ring, sl st to top of beginning ch 2 ; turn. ————- (11 stitches, chain 2 counts as 1.)

Round 2 & 3: Ch 2 , 1 dc in same st as ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around, slip stitch to top of beginning ch 2; turn. ———-22 st after Round 2 and 44 st after Round 3

Round 4, 5, 6 & 7: Ch 2 , dc in each stitch around, slip stitch to top of beginning ch 2; turn. —————–44 st

Round 8: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to ch 1; Fasten off. —————44 sc You can choose to make it all white in

which case you don’t have to fasten off and continue with the white yarn.

Round 9, 10 & 11: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to ch 1; Fasten off. ——-44 sc

Bow

Using Magenta color yarn and Hook H chain 15+3

Row 1 : 1 dc into 4th ch from hook and across ; turn.————– 16 sc counting ch 3

Row 2, 3 and 4: Ch 3, 1 dc in next st and each st across———-16 sc

Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as ch 3, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st across till 2 st left, 2 dc in next, 3 dc in last; fasten off.

Middle Band of Bow

Using Magenta yarn and hooh H again ch 11.

Row 1 : 1 hdc into 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each ch across; fasten off with long tail.——–10 hdc

Finishing the Bow

Using a yarn needle and the tail left on the middle band when you fastened off, constrict the bow at the middle, wrap the middle band around it and sew the two ends of the band behind the bow.

Ears

Ch 3 and sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 5 sc in chain ring, sl st to 1st sc——————5 sc

Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in in next st, 2 sc in each st across, sl st to 1st sc.——–10 sc

Round 3: Ch 1, 2sc in in next st, 2 sc in each st across, sl st to 1st sc.——–20 sc

Round 4: Ch 2, * ( 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next ) Repeat from * till 4 st left, 1 hdc in next st; Turn. After this round you will have 3 stitches of the previous round unworked. ——–17 st

Round 5: Ch 2, skip next st, 1 dc in next st and each st across till 2 st left, skip next st, 1 hdc in last st. Fasten off leaving a long tail. ————-15 st

Assembly

If you have a doll or some round object fit the hat on that. Position the ears where you want and pin it in place. A little toward the front would be ideal. Then sew it down with the yarn tail left when you fastened off. Now position the bow in the middle of the ears with the broader row (the fasten off row) up and pin in place. Sew it down too with matching thread.
