Size 4 steel crochet hook
darning needle and scissors
2″ wide and 1 3/4″ long
Covering Over Penny:
Chain 5, join to form a ring
ch 3, dc 13 in ring, join in top of ch 3. While doing the dcs, dc over beginning tail and then pull up tight and secure opening closed. (13 sts plus chain is 14 sts)
Ch 2, 1 sc in same place as the join, 2 sc in each dc around, join in back loop of first sc. (28 sts)
Do not chain, sc around in back loop only (28 sts) Cut an 8″ tail and fasten off. Using a needle, weave the tail in and out of back loop of last row. Pull tightly over a penny, wrong sides together, fasten off and hide the end.
Attach the yarn in any stitch in round 3 of the penny cover. These are the front loop of each stitch when you sc in the back loop only and is along the back edge. See photo Round 1, ch 1, sc in each loop around and over the beginning tail for about 7 sts, join in ch 1. (28 sts)
Round 2, ch 1, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tr in next st, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 7 scs, 2 dc in next 2 sts, 7 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tr in next st, 1 dc, 1 hdc, slip in last 2 sts. (32 sts)
Round 3, slip in ch of last row, 2 sc in 1st st, 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in ea of next 4 sts, hdc, 7 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sts, 7 sc, 1 hdc, 3 hdc in ea of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 2 sc in last st, slip in first sc. (32 sts)
