Crochet Slippers

Crocheted slippers provide an excellent alternative to wearing house shoes with rubber soles. To make size 8 slippers, you need a size F/5-3.75mm crochet hook and one skein of worsted medium yarn.

Chain 16.

Round 1: Work a single crochet (sc) in the 2nd chain from your hook and in each chain around, chain 1– 15 sc. Work 15 sc in each chain on the opposite side of the chain.

Round 2:  Place stitch marker, slip stitch (sl) in the first sc, chain 1, work a sc in the same space, sc in the next 15 sc, * 2 sc in the next sc, sc in the next sc * repeat from * to * until the end of the round.

Round 3: Sl stitch in the next sc, chain 1, and place a stitch marker, sc in the same space. Sc in the next 15 sc*, work 2sc in the next sc, sc in the next sc,* repeat from * to*   to end, work 2sc in the sc above stitch marker.

Round 4: Sl stitch in the next sc, chain 1, sc in the same space. Sc in the next 15 sc, work 2sc in each of the next 5 sc, sc around until last 5 sc, works 2sc in each of the last 5 sc.

Round 5: SL stitch, place stitch marker, chain 1, sc in the same space, sc around.

Round 6: Slip stitch in the next sc, chain 1, work a sc in the same space. Work 2 sc in each of the next 6 sc; and sc around.

Round 7:  Work sl stitch in the sc after the stitch marker, chain 1 and sc in same space. Work sc in the next 19 sc then work 2sc in each of the next 7 sc.  Work a sc to the last sc.  Slip stitch over stitch marker, chain 1 and sc in the same space.

Round 8: Work a sc in each sc around until you reach the last sc. Slip stitch over the stitch marker, chain 1, sc in the same space.

Round 9: Work a sc in the next 29 sc, 2sc in each of the next 8 sc, then sc to the last sc. Work a sl stitch ( over the stitch marker) chain1, work a sc in the same space.

Round 10: Work a sc in the next 30 sc, 2sc in each of the 9sc, and then sc around to last sc, sl stitch in sc over stitch marker, ch 1, sc in the same space.

Round 11: Sc in the next 25 sc, works decrease (dec), insert hook in the next sc pull up a loop, insert hook in the next sc and pull up a loop, yarn over (yo),  draw yarn through all 3 loops on the hook-1 decrease made. Repeat 9 more times than sc around to last stitch.

Round 12: Work a sl stitch in the next sc, ch1, sc in the same space. Sc in the next 24 sc works a dec, sc in next 16 sc, sc around to last sc. Skip ch-1, sl stitch in the next sc, chain 1, sc in the same space—72 sc.

Instep and Shaping Toe

Round 1: Sc in the next 14 sc, place marker, sc in the next 16 sc, work 2 dec, sc, dec. Sc  in the next 17 sc, ch-3 for bar across the instep.

Round 2: With ch-3 on the hook, work a sl stitch in the sc (stitch marker at the opposite side of instep).

Round 3: Work a sl stitch in next sc, ch 1 then sc in the same space. Sc in the next 14 sc , work a dec in the next 8 sc and sc in the next 14 sc. Work up 1 sl stitch in each of the ch-3 bar. The sls are not decreases.

Round 4: Fold instep opening and match up stitches, sl stitches one over the other along 10 stitches of instep. Fasten off. This leaves a toe opening of 15 stitches.

Round 5: work a sc in each of the 15 sc.

Round 6: repeat round 5.

Round 7: Fold toe opening, close with slip stitches along the 15 sc. Fasten off.

Upper Foot Opening


Round 1: Insert hook in the third chain of ch-3 bar, ch1 and bring up loops in the next 6 sc, (6 loops on hook)*   skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch1, repeat form* to * sc around until the last 6 sc, ending with a skip 1 and pull up 6 loops and draw through, ch1, sl stitch in the third chain of the ch-3 bar. Turn.

Round 2: Chain 1, sc around– 29sc.

Round 3 to 5: Repeat round 2. Fasten off.
